AMA Conference 2007
  Edinburgh

AMA Member Reps Anita McGregor and Susie Burnet:

'We are delighted that the AMA has chosen Edinburgh as the destination for the 2007 AMA Conference and we are sure that you will agree when you get here that it really is a top city.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre is located just a stone’s throw from the city centre and all the historical sites that Edinburgh is famous for (not to mention George Street for those who enjoy a bit of glam shopping, eating and drinking . . . we know who you are!).

We love this city. And not just for the myriad of cultural experiences that you can enjoy in the space of just 24 hours (that would be far too obvious for us to bang on about).

Edinburgh is a fantastic city in which to live and work, but if you only have just a few days to enjoy it then never fear, there's a lot to see and do.

Here's a brief list for starters . . .

The National Galleries of Scotland, National Museums Scotland, Theatres, Concert Halls, Holyrood Palace, The Royal Mile, St Giles Cathedral, restaurants, bars, shops (a plenty!) Botanic Gardens, Princess Street Gardens, The Grassmarket, Edinburgh Dungeons, Ghost Tours (revel in stories about Edinburgh’s gory past), Mary Kings Close, Royal Britannia, Arthur’s Seat (if you like hill climbing – its slap bang in the middle of the city).

Oh and did we forget to mention Edinburgh Castle? Don’t jump when they set off the one o’clock gun. Many a cappuccino is spilt on Princes Street (or maybe it will wake up those with hangovers after the AMA social – ahem).

Ok - even if you only have limited time (for those more conscientious delegates) just wander around the streets and take in the stunning views you get at every corner - from the breathtaking architectural landscape of the Old Town to the New Town and the style bars and continental cafes and restaurants - there is a lot to soak up and enjoy.

The view as you walk out of Edinburgh’s Waverley Station is probably the finest first impression of any city in the world. (Lonely Planet).

You may wonder why it is known as the Athens of the North - so come and see for yourself. We think it will only take you 30 seconds to work it out!'
